The Sports Equipment Guide

How it works

Answer a few questions. Get a short list with the reasons. Here is what happens in between.

  1. 1

    Your answers

We ask about your level, your budget, what you play with now (if you are replacing a racket) and what matters most to you, such as control, spin, comfort or easy power. You can also add a note in your own words, like “my elbow hurts after an hour”. You can skip that.

  2. 2

    How rackets are scored

Every racket in our catalogue has measured specs (head size, weight, balance, stiffness) and ratings for things like power, control, comfort and manoeuvrability. We compare those with your answers using a fixed scoring recipe. The same answers always give the same result.

  3. 3

    The fit labels

The score measures how well a racket fits your answers. It is not a verdict on whether the racket is good. A great racket can be a poor fit for you, and the other way round.

    Excellent fit
Closely matches what you told us.
    Strong fit
Matches most of it, with small gaps.
    Good fit
A sensible option with some trade-offs. Rackets that fit less well are not shown.
  4. 4

    The picks

You may see a best match, a best value pick, a best upgrade (if you are replacing a racket) and some other options worth a look. Each one lists why it fits and what to watch for.

What AI does and does not do

The ranking is not done by AI. On this site your free-text note is read in your browser by simple keyword rules. It can only add things you wrote, such as a sore arm or a wish for more spin. It cannot choose or reorder rackets.

Where the data comes from

Specs come from retailer and manufacturer pages. Most handling and feel ratings are based on published playtests and reviews, adjusted onto one scale. For some rackets there is no usable playtest, so those ratings are estimates and carry less weight. Prices change often, so the prices we use to match your budget are approximate. Always check the current price at the shop.

Money

We may earn a commission if you buy through a link. It does not change the order of the rackets. Read our affiliate disclosure.

What it cannot do

  • It cannot try the racket for you. If you can, demo before you buy.
  • It is not medical advice. If you have arm pain, speak to a physio or doctor.
  • It covers a limited catalogue of tennis rackets for now.

Ready to try it? It takes about a minute.
